🙏🏾 Thanks to all athletes who represent the Nation 🇨🇬
I’m just surprised by the reactions of people when they talk about the background of our athletes who have gone to the Olympics. People tend to forget that it takes a lot of resources to train an athlete to compete on the highest stages of international competition.
There are so many hurdles that athletes have to jump through. And one of them is nutrition. Many of them don’t have to eat after practice, for some. And for those that do, they don’t eat the food that fits their body’s needs and their overall goals.
Our expectations are so high and we put a lot of pressure on athletes who already feel alone. They need to travel, work in the right environments, and most importantly feel like they are working hard for a worthwhile cause: representing a nation. And therefore to make history.
I think it’s important to understand the levels. Oh yes, there are levels in this game. It takes a lot of years to be competitive at this level and our country is not yet committed to seeing us win medals to begin with.
So the next time you see someone representing our country at a higher level, no matter what the discipline, be happy and share positive energy and most importantly love. Most of the time, they are alone on this journey. And your words, your smile, your encouragement can have a huge impact on their career.
Am I asking for too much?
