Learn the trick that will improve your timing
The simplest way to explain timing is this. If your girlfriend is changing, you’re in the bedroom and you suddenly say “babe, do you think we should start jogging?”. “‘ That’s bad timing.
She’ll ask you, ‘What do you say, honey? Are you saying something, baby? I know what you’re saying: you’re saying I look fat, and I need to change. And this discussion can get out of hand if you don’t get everything right in time.
So, business and life is all about timing
When do I launch this initiative? Where do I make this announcement? When do I recognize my employees? When should I send a gift? When should I keep my mouth shut?
All of these questions need to be asked and answered thoughtfully. It’s really about having good intentions and not communicating the way you want to your audience.
So the next time you make a decision or are about to make an announcement, take time to think about it and check to see if the timing is right.
Bad timing can start a war you didn’t want to have. Knowing when to act is a necessity for any leader.
